Teacup Schnoodle

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

As you may have guessed - if you know anything about dogs - whenever ‘teacup’ gets affixed to the front of a dog’s name, they’re going to be very, very small.

Considering that schnoodles don’t get very big to begin with, it’s not too surprising that they can fall under the teacup size class. But where does teacup come from?

It’s not too hard to discover when you think about it, really. Teacups - as in, the actual piece of china - are very small. So a dog would have to be extremely, extremely small to fit into a teacup, or at least to be of a comparable size. Granted, teacup dogs aren’t actually that small, but they’re generally considered to be the smallest of dogs, so the name’s warranted.

Note that ‘teacup’ is not an officially recognized dog registry term - rather it’s one used to denote the very smallest of toy class dogs among owners and breeders.
